Jenny Garcia Sharon of Austin

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett has represented a congressional district based in Austin since 1995. His electoral career began in 1973, when he was elected to the Texas State Senate, a position he held until 1985. In 1989, he became both a justice of the Texas Supreme Court and an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law, serving until his election to Congress. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1994. His district has changed after 10-year redistricting and his current 35th District extends from Austin to San Antonio. He serves on the House Ways & Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Social Security and Medicare. He is chair of the Subcommittee on Health and serves on the Select Revenue Subcommittee. In addition, he is a member of the House Budget Committee and the Joint Committee on Taxation. Doggett received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor degree from the UT-Austin School of Law. He served as student body president his senior year.
